Medical excipients refer to medical materials used to cover sores, wounds, or other injuries. Traditional dressings are mostly simple protective multi-layer gauze or vaseline gauze, which play a passive role in protecting the wound. Traditional dressing changes and medication infiltration wet compress can play a certain role in wound treatment, but long-term constant temperature and humidity wet compress is not conducive to wound healing and growth, and can easily cause adhesion between the wound and dressing, resulting in secondary injury. The new type of medical dressing is actually a new product obtained by improving traditional dressings. It originated from the concept of wet wound healing and developed based on it. It is aimed at accelerating wound healing for patients while maintaining wound humidity. So far, there are various types of new dressings available in the domestic market.

The following are some common new medical excipients, which belong to the category of synthetic dressings and each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

1、 Membrane dressings: Membrane dressings are mainly composed of polyurethane materials and medical adhesive, divided into two layers: the inner layer is hydrophilic material, which can absorb wound exudate, and the outer layer has good breathability and elasticity. This type of dressing is transparent, easy to observe the wound, and can tightly adhere to the surface of the wound, effectively maintaining the exudate of the wound, thereby providing a moist environment conducive to wound healing and promoting the shedding of necrotic tissue. Clinical studies have shown that the application of this dressing in tracheostomy care and central venous catheterization maintenance is effective. It can not only effectively prevent infection, but also improve patient comfort, and is worthy of clinical promotion and application. Disadvantages: This medical excipient has poor water absorption performance and is prone to accumulation of submucosal exudates after saturation, which may induce or exacerbate infection. So it is only suitable for relatively clean wounds and not for wounds with excessive exudate.

2、 Foam dressing: the outer layer of the new foam dressing is made of hydrophobic material, and the inner layer is made of hydrophilic material. This medical excipient has the characteristics of porosity, low surface tension, elasticity, strong plasticity, and lightweight. Its absorption of exudates can reach 10 times the mass of the dressing itself. Disadvantages: Poor adhesion, requiring external fixing materials; The dressing is opaque and difficult to observe the wound surface; The dressing has large pores, making it easy for the wound tissue to grow in, not easy to remove the membrane, and easily contaminated by bacteria.

3、 Hydrogel dressing: Hydrogel dressing is a kind of gel like substance with three-dimensional network structure and insoluble in water. It is made of water-soluble polymer materials or their monomers through special processing. Its main components are 70% -90% pure water, carboxymethyl cellulose rope and other additional components. The main function of hydrogel is self debridement, and its mechanism is to decompose necrotic substances in wet environment through collagen degrading enzymes in wound exudates. Advantages: The clinical report shows that the hydrogel dressing can closely fit the uneven wound, reduce the chance of bacterial growth, prevent wound infection, accelerate angiogenesis, and promote epithelial cell growth.
