What are medical excipients?

Medical excipients are medical materials used to cover abscesses, wounds, or other injuries. The damage caused by skin injuries, abscesses, ulcers, and other reasons can cause bacterial infections, excessive loss of water and protein, endocrine and immune dysfunction, and a series of problems in the body, thereby endangering life.

After skin injury, skin substitute medical dressings should generally be used to protect the wound, prevent wound infection and severe dehydration, provide a moist environment that helps wound healing, and promote wound healing.

Medical excipients are consumables packaged to cover wounds, wounds, or other damaged medical materials.

With the in-depth study of the pathophysiology of wound healing process, the understanding of wound healing process has also deepened, leading to the continuous improvement and development of medical wound hyperthermia. Today, compared to the early days, new wound treatment excipients have undergone revolutionary changes, with various performance medical dressings available for clinical nursing staff to choose from.

Synthetic fiber excipients for medical excipients:

This dressing has the same advantages as gauze, with excellent economy, absorption performance, and some products have their own viscosity, making it very convenient to use. But this product also has the same drawbacks as gauze. For example, high transparency and no barriers to particulate pollutants in the external environment.

Polymer film excipients for medical excipients:

This is a good auxiliary material for gases such as oxygen and water vapor to freely transmit, and particulate foreign objects (such as dust, microorganisms, etc.) in the environment are characteristics that cannot pass through.

Advantages:

1. Prevent environmental microorganisms from invading wounds and prevent cross infection.

2. It has moisturizing properties, making the wound moist and non sticky, and will not cause mechanical damage again during replacement

3. It has its own stickiness, is easy to use and transparent, and is easy to observe the condition of the wound.

Disadvantages:

1. Reduced absorption and permeability

2. Relatively high costs.

3. The skin around the wound has a high chance of immersion, so this type of dressing is mainly used for wounds that do not penetrate much after surgery or as an auxiliary dressing for other dressings.

Natural gauze for medical excipients:

(Cotton pad) This is an ancient and widely used auxiliary material.

Advantages:

1. Absorb strong and rapid wound fluid accumulation

2. The production and processing process is relatively simple.

Disadvantages:

1. High permeability makes the wound prone to dehydration

If the wound is attached, replacement may cause mechanical damage again

3. External environment microorganisms are easy to pass through, with a high chance of cross infection

4. High dosage, frequent replacement, long time consumption, and patient suffering

Due to the reduction of natural resources, the cost of gauze is gradually increasing. Therefore, in order to avoid excessive utilization of natural resources, processing polymer materials (synthetic fibers) into medical dressings is a synthetic fiber excipient.
